WHO ARE THEY? - Easy Hiker are the awesome husband and wife team of Michael and Marlys Schuermann. They've spent the last few years exploring their adopted hometown of Paris, which means my wife is insanely jealous of them. Before that, Michael worked as a sportscaster, which means I'm insanely jealous of him. I mean, he might even have been working when Leeds had a respectable football team. Wait...did I just call him old?

WHAT DO THEY WRITE ABOUT? - If you didn't get it from the title, they write about hiking. Now I'm sure you're wondering what I'm doing recommending a hiking site. After all, the outdoors isn't exactly my area of expertise. With the proper motivation however, I can be enticed to leave the comforts of my couch and explore the wild blue yonder. Promising me that the outdoor activity we're about to embark on is not only interesting but easy, is exactly the path to take. Tell me we have to climb Mount Everest and you've lost me before we begin. Tell me that it's a fairly flat and scenic stroll with lots of places to stop and enjoy a meal, and you've got my attention.

WHY YOU SHOULD READ THEM - If you really need a guide book to tell you that a stroll down the Champs-Élysées is a good idea, then by all means go ahead and buy one. If you can figure that out for yourself and you'd like to explore some of the more interesting but lesser known sites in cities ranging from England to Austria, then this is a site you should be reading. On the other hand, if you really, really want to buy a guide book, they've written one of those too. Check out Paris Movie Walks for walking tours that will take you to the spots where hundreds of your favorite movies were filmed.

WHERE YOU SHOULD START - Well I'd start in the City of Light. There's not too many places to go in this world where the first thing I'd want to do is go for a walk, but Paris may just be one of those spots. Take a read through Walking in Parisian Parks and dream about strolling around one of the most romantic cities in the world. Of course if romance is one of those things you don't think about (or in the case of my teenage daughters, aren't allowed to think about) then you might prefer to start somewhere else. Perhaps the banks of the Thames river in the UK would be more to your liking, or maybe a tour of Costa Brava in Spain. Neither of those should require roses or chocolate to set the mood properly.

MY FAVORITE POST - I've been married for over 17 years now, and I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've been right when Lori and I have a difference of opinion, especially when it comes to following directions. Thus, my favorite post on Easy Hiker is one of those once in a Blue Moon occasions when the man of the house actually got it right. Check out Confessions of a Hiking Blogger and read about this miraculous event.
