WHO ARE THEY? - Mary claims to be an island girl, now married and living with her two kids in San Diego. I guess she gets credit for being an island girl since she was born in the Philippines, but in my mind you're not truly an island girl until I've seen a picture of you in a coconut bra and a grass skirt. As closely as I've read her site, I can't recall ever seeing Mary dressed up in an outfit like that. Her husband sure...but we're talking about Mary here.
WHAT DO THEY WRITE ABOUT? - Affordable travel to exciting places. That's probably the best way I can sum up the World is a Book mantra. Traveling with your family is expensive, and Mary and her family are seeing incredible places, all while dealing with the same kind of budget that you and I are. At least I assume you are. If you're reading this and you're some sort of multi-billionaire, feel free to use the "Contact Us" button on the menu bar. Or the one on Mary's site. I'm sure she'd love to talk to you too.
WHY YOU SHOULD READ THEM - I've heard this rumor that there are some fiscally responsible people out there. Budgeting and money management are not particular strong points over here at MKTS, but Mary and her family seem to have a pretty good grip on what they're doing when it comes to ways to make their travels entertaining without taking out a third mortgage. If you want to find a way to make visiting places like Tokyo, Madrid, or New York affordable with your family, you should pop by The World is a Book. If you want a spot on the MasterCard collections department Wall of Fame, just stay right here.
WHERE YOU SHOULD START - Are you into cruising? The World is a Book family are into double digits when it comes to the number of cruises they've taken (yes, still on a budget), and they can tell you all about the ups and downs of taking your kids on a boat. Head to their "Cruising" page and pick a topic of interest. If you're one of those people who prefer vacationing on land as you're terrified of the water (It's not the water, it's what's in the water...) then don't despair. The World is a Book has a page listing free activities to keep your kids entertained in all sorts of cities. Go check out the "Five Free Family Fun Series", because apparently Mary really likes the letter 'F'.
MY FAVORITE POST - Mary is one of my fellow Disney fans, but while she lives close enough to Disneyland to visit all the time, my favorite place on her blog is her recount of their visit to Tokyo DisneySea. Despite desperately wanting to go, I've never managed to get over and see this park, but I feel like I've got a pretty good feel for what it will be like after going through Mary's post on their visit over and over. Oh, and by the way Mary...the last picture in your post from the Sinbad ride...that's what an island girl outfit looks like. Just sayin'.
