National S'mores Day

I was just about ready to go to work this morning when somebody pointed out to me that it's National S'mores Day. A day to celebrate the mashing of marshmallow and chocolate, and if you feel like it a couple of graham wafers too. Obviously my place of employment will be closed today to honor this most important of holidays, so I'm glad that I didn't bother to get dressed yet (Ummm...sorry. Try and wipe that visual from your mind.)

There may be some proportion problems here...

S'mores have been one of my kids favorite treats for as long as I can remember, which makes no sense at all considering they're generally considered a campfire treat, and we're not well known for our camping abilities.

Look at us roughing it! (Ummm...Ignore the restaurant behind us...)

We're not going to let a little "outdoors" come between us and our favorite dessert though, so we've started finding ways to simplify the process. Didn't think you could simplify S'mores did you? Well you can. For starters, did you know that they have perfectly packaged kits, just ready for you to work with?

Or you could go for a step simpler...

That might be taking it a little too far though. A lot of the fun of S'mores is roasting the marshmallow yourself. So what I want is to roast my own marshmallow, without any of the outdoor experience. That can be done right?

Bingo! Now we've got it. "Waiter...Bring us a plate of S'mores every 15 minutes until somebody passes out. Then bring one every 10 minutes."

Enjoy your National S'mores Day, and feel free to tell your boss that I said you didn't have to go in to work today.

This post is a part of Photo Friday at Delicious Baby and Friday Daydreamin at R We There Yet Mom. If you didn't get here from one of those sites, you should really go check them out. There's people there who make their S'mores outside. They probably even know how to make a campfire and everything! Showoffs.

A smore's eating contenst until people pass out? It sounds like something I would try but then regret later. Great idea!

I clearly need to jump on board and track down a s'more--after all, a vast majority of the recipes pinned on my Pinterest board are s'mores-related!

Thanks! We will be celebrating with s'mores for snack today! My husband tried one for the first time this past winter!

Mmm, I love the peanut butter cup idea. We will be camping next weekend, and I am going to have to try that one.

This is about the 4th time I've heard someone mention today is National S'mores Day and I can't believe it's so pervasive! Who knew??

You can make the in the microwave too if you get desperate...not that I would know anything about that!

What??? National s'mores Day? I missed it! We are a camping family and believe me, it's just not a sucessful camping trip without some good ole smores. We've even been known to make smores in a cabin in a microwave (I know, not very rustic), which was a mistake. We used jumbo marshmallows that grew to huge proportions. Next time I'll stick with normal size marshmallows.

So, it's Canadian Smores Day but US Smores Day could be different? I got a Smores maker for Christmas one year. That person must really know me because it combined my pyro tendencies with my love of chocolate. I had to give it away because I was lighting it up every night (after the kids went to bed). Now, I use the broiler on my toaster oven. Interestingly, a Handmade Marshmallow Store just opened up near me. Graham crackers are difficult to find in Malaysia, so they were also trying to bake those. But none of them had ever tasted a "real" one (say HoneyMaid) before, so they didn't know if they were getting it right. I offered to be their taste tester, so they gave me some samples to critique. I told them it was really good , but it wsn't a classic graham cracker. It was more like gingerbread minus the ginger.

I'm so sorry I didn't observe National S'mores Day. Having missed Talk Like a Pirate Day too, I feel like a real loser. There is nothing like making s'mores over a campfire, but since we don't camp, I've settled for making them with a metal skewer over the stove when the craving strikes.

The last time we made s'mores, we did so at the fire pit at a resort...one of my marshmellows caught on fire and for a terrifying moment I thought I might accidentally burn down the whole place. So, yeah, s'mores are kind of stressful.

Can I hit the rewind button? I am bummed that I missed National S'mores day!! They are one of my favorites, especially when you burn the marshmallows :)

Brace yourself...this is going to come as a shock to you...I'm not a big fan of S'mores. I only like one of the 3 ingredients (chocolate) and there is just so much work involved.

Is that first s'more with a peanut butter cup?! Yum! I must try that.

As an adult I no longer like marshmallows - don't ask me how I got like this - even though growing up I ate boatloads of roasted marshmallows. And in my childhood no one had come up with the idea of a s'more. So believe it or not - I have never had one so perhaps I should reserve judgement and try the real McCoy on the next camping trip. Glad you enjoyed your National S'Mores Day.

I can't believe I missed National S'Mores Day! We usually have them when we visit the grandparents' cottage on Manitoulin Island but there were no campfires allowed when we were there earlier this month because everything was so dry. Hoping to have some over a campfire later this month in PEI though!!
